wtf? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-nflbriefs&prov=ap&type=lgns

The NFL is the second best source for stupid sports stories, but nothing beats the 500 year old Don Zimmer rushing at Pedro Martinez....or Randy Johnson taking out that dove mid-pitch.

Shit... my friend Joyce (APALC baby!!!) just introduced me to the OC soundtracks (there's more than one of these bitches?!?!?) and I realized that for the most part, it's stuff that I am listening to. This elicited my response of:

Choi Wing Fai: motherfucker, corporate america is stealing my identity

In essence, this whole "indie is the new rock" phase is BS. Although the exposure is great and I am optimistically hoping it will open up people's minds about music, the marketing of these groups and commercialization of indie subculture is distressing. More on this later. And no bitch, I'm not an elitist.

I'm thinking about heading out the second day, as I really want to see Wilco, the Shins, Postal Service, Iron and Wine, and the Arcade Fire... but Diana and Phuong both want to see David Bowie, goddamnit. (And yes Lucia, I do want to see Tears for Fears as well, if you were wondering.)

I am listening to Yo La Tengo's 1997 classic "I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One." It's deliciously cheesy and sentimental and makes me miss Diana. I hate and love winter... it's melancholy yet nice and overcast the way I like it, gray days are the best...

Ok bake to boring through the drudgery that is Finals week... I hope I get that 55% in my Mickey Mouse Bio class....

ITS LIMA TIME!

Dodgers pitcher Jose Lima, who was the hero of Game 3 in the 2004 MLB NLDS (which i saw in person and will likely be one of the best sporting moments I will have witnessed live), is apparently in some trouble with the ladies.

Goooooo Blue!

HOLIDAYS ARE GOOD

Damn its been too long since I got to go home (and see Diana). And damn the food was good. Now I'm looking forward to winter break more than ever. Plus there are a ton of great shows in LA coming up:

12/15 Jem w/ Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli) @ the El Rey (quickly becoming one of my favorite venues)

12/16 Moving Units @ the El Rey Theatre

12/17 Earlimart, Rogue Wave @ the Troubador

12/17 Jon Brion @ the Largo

12/23 Jon Brion @ the Largo

I hope Goldenboy performs sometime soon too but unfortunately he's in Europe touring with Matt Sharp (of Weezer fame) for the beginning of December.

Anyway, here's another band whose album I should pick up soon:

Autolux is from LA and have a great ambient shoegaze sound. I hope to hear more from them on the local indie stations and hearing this stuff come out of LA (along with bands like Earlimart) makes me want to pay more attention to the local music scene but I'm in SD far too much for that.

Also, if anyone has a cut of "I've Been Thinking" from the latest Handsome Boy Modeling School album, give it to me! I love Chan Marshall's (Cat Power) vocals on that track. Damn she's good...

In non-music news, I am going to the APIAVote National Debrief Meeting on December 10 (5 hours after I finish my last final) and will be in DC until Monday the 13th. I must admit i miss the atmosphere of DC much and it was great just to go to places after work, particularly anywhere that sold beer. I am, however, worried about being in the cold as the lowest temperature I have ever been in is about 35 degrees in the mountains, but that was with the sun out. Californians fearful of truly cold weather, isn't that a stereotype or something? Well it should be. If anyone else will be around DC at the time, lets meet up! Otherwise I will be annoying one Go Kasai for a good 3 days...
